From Menstruation to Menopause - What you need to know about CBD for Women

CBD for Women's Health

Even before the pandemic, hundreds of thousands of people were turning to CBD as a way of supporting their physical and mental health. Because CBD directly works with our body’s naturally-occurring Endocannabinoid System, it has become the go-to choice for many when it comes to regulating stress, pain, anxiety, inflammation, sleep – the list goes on.

Unsurprisingly, when it comes to women, there are many benefits to incorporating CBD into your daily routine. Below we break down some of the reasons all you queens should be using CBD.

CBD can help alleviate cramps and general pain during menstruation

One of the most unique things about being a woman is that each month, all women must go through menstruation. For many women, this part of each month throws the body’s internal environment into all sorts of imbalances. It is not only “period pain” that most women must deal with; the menstruation cycle brings about a whole host of hormonal imbalances, causes changes in mood, cravings, bloating, headaches and more.

These symptoms arise from a bunch of inflammatory hormones, called prostaglandins, which form in response to the lining of the uterus shedding. That is why more often than not, many women experience pain in the abdomen, although depending on the severity, some can also feel discomfort in their lower back or inner thighs.

Traditionally many women use anti-inflammatory, over-the-counter medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen to relieve their pain, but these types of medications can come with many side effects, particularly when used over a long period of time.

Now, however, more and more women are turning to CBD, especially because scientists have discovered that CBD, similar to aspirin & ibuprofen, inhibits the prostaglandin producing enzyme. This coupled with CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties is making CBD an increasingly popular, alternative, and all-natural choice for many women.

Can CBD also help with the symptoms of menopause for older women?

For a long time, there has been a wealth of anecdotal evidence citing CBD as a potential ailment for alleviating menopause. This isn’t a surprise. In actual fact, it is remarkable just how much our current healthcare system is ill-prepared to support women in dealing with the symptoms of menopause and understanding the different areas of a woman’s physical and mental health that it can affect.

Alongside the anecdotal evidence, now science is catching up, and an increasing number of studies outline that CBD can have a positive effect on women going through menopause.

One study by the Permanente Journal, looking at the effects of CBD on menopause, found that 79% of women experienced a reduction in anxiety-related problems and a further 66% reported improved sleep within the first month of using it.

Menopause is an experience that affects every woman differently, but what we do know is that it throws the body out of balance – and that is why more and more women are finding therapeutic relief from their symptoms by using CBD.

Women deserve the support so that they may feel healthy, strong and empowered to pursue and achieve their goals. Supporting and promoting a healthy mind and body is crucial to this, and is in itself a cause worth committing to. CBD is increasingly providing a way for women to stay in their best health whilst pursuing their lifelong ambitions.
